Hot off the heels of their wildly successful collaboration that brought us The Simpsons as 3-inch vinyl figurines, Kid Robot and Matt Groening are at it again. They have just released Futurama vinyls at the Kid Robot retail locations and their website. This happens to coincide nicely with the recent announcement that Futurama is coming back to the air with new episodes despite being cancelled in 2003 after 5 seasons.

Futurama has proven it has legs, living a long and healthy life in reruns, first on Adult Swim, then later on Comedy Central. And after Family Guy, another animated primetime program cancelled by Fox, proved that you could rise from the dead – Futurama appears to be poised to follow in those footsteps. The road back to TV has been rocky so far, the 4 feature length straight-to-DVD movies Futurama produced since being cancelled haven’t garnered all the praise they probably hoped they would, but obviously proved to be enough of a financial success, combined with the rerun ratings and the DVD sales of the original series, to be resurrected.

Recently, in what some call a publicity stunt, Fox (who owns Comedy Central where the reborn show will air) announced that they failed to reach an agreement with the principle voice actors and would be recasting all the main roles. Then they announced about 2 weeks later that they were apparently just kidding, and all the original voice talent would return. So amidst all this buzz, Kid Robot released the Futurama toy line. Perfect timing.
