Earlier today, Nike announced the release of 3 Transformer-inspired shoes. Obviously taking into account the hype surrounding the Transformers movie, Nike has released shoes based on classic characters: Megatron, Soundwave, and Bumblebee.

Clearly going for the fans of the original Generation 1 cartoon, Nike has even packaged the shoes in boxes inspired by the original Hasbro 80’s toy boxes. (Complete with the encrypted power stats on the back- whatchu know about the red cellophane decoder strip!)

The special Transformers colorways are for the Nike Zoom Flight Club (Megatron), Nike Zoom FP (Bumblebee), and Nike Sharkalaid (Soundwave), and feature the appropriate emblem of allegiance- Autobot or Decepticon. Fans of the original cartoon series should appreciate the choice of characters- but seriously Nike? No Optimus Prime? No Starscream? Come on now…

In this day and age, when kids will be first introduced to Transformers in the big loud action movies from Michael Bay, featuring Shia LaBouf as the star instead of the robots in disguise themselves, it’s good to see the original spirit kept alive in some form.
